Why Does Neodymium Magnet Need Coating Treatment?

Neodymium magnet is easy to react with oxygen. If it is not treated with coating, it will oxidize rapidly, which will affect its performance. This is why all neodymium magnets are coated with a protective coating.

Will The Coating Of Neodymium Magnet Affect Its Magnetism?

Generally, the electroplating coating of neodymium magnet is very thin, which has no effect on the adhesion of magnet.

What Coatings Are Available For  Neodymium Magnets?

Common neodymium magnet coatings include zinc, nickel, epoxy, gold and chromium. Let's briefly introduce these coatings.Types of Neodymium Magnets Coatings.

1. Epoxy Coating and Epoxy Coated Neodymium Magnets

Epoxy coating is a cathodic dip coating (KTL). Epoxy KTL coating has special stability in humid environment and in contact with weak acid, alkaline and saline solutions.Epoxy KTL coating also provides better peel performance for glue peel test. However, black epoxy resin is not as wear-resistant as other plants. In this case, the epoxy layer may be scraped off to expose the underlying copper layer.

Meank offer epoxy coated neodymium disc, block, ring, cylinder and countersunk magnets, all the neodymium magnets with epoxy coating .All epoxy coated magnets contain at least three layers coats.

2. Teflon (PTFE) Coating And Teflon Coated Neodymium Magnets

Teflon coating also known as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) coating, can separate the neodymium magnet from corrosive liquid or humid environment, and has a good protective effect on the neodymium  magnet, but the cost is high. Teflon  coated neodymium magnets are often called waterproof neodymium magnets. We can customize Teflon coated magnets of different shaped neodymium magnets with Teflon(PTFE) coating

3. Nickel (NiCuNi) coating And Nickel Plated Magnets

Nickel(NiCuNi) coating is a kind of coating widely used for surface protection of sintered neodymium magnets. It is applied to neodymium magnet in three layers: alkaline nickel layer, middle copper layer and finally surface nickel. Neodymium magnets with nickel plating has advantages due to its surface rigidity, cost-effectiveness and excellent stability in humid environment and high temperature.

4. Galvanized Zinc (Zn) Coating And Zinc Coated Magnets

Zinc coating is also a widely used technology. Applied to various parts. It can be divided into blue and white Zinc coatings. Zinc coating has no negative effects on human health and environment. Due to the mechanical stability of zinc coating, zinc coated neodymium magnets are recommended to be used only at temperatures up to 80°C.

5. Gold-coating (Ni-Cu-Ni-Au) Coating And Gold Plated Magnets

Gold coating is a coating with high corrosion resistance and conductivity. Gold coated magnets are usually coated with nickel and copper to show the natural luster of gold. The gold plating layer is very thin, but it will still increase the cost of magnets. Gold plated neodymium magnets are common in magnetic jewelry.

6. Chrome (Ni-Cu-Ni-Cr) Coating And Chrome Plated Magnets

Chrome coating has better friction resistance and compression resistance. Its color is a dark gray metallic color. We use this coating to make spherical neodymium magnets,we can offer various sizes of spherical neodymium magnets with Chrome (Ni-Cu-Ni-Cr) coating.

Concluding Remarks
