Sintered Alnico Magnets-tend To Be Small, Thin, Light And Complex Magnets Sintered Alnico Magnets-tend To Be Small, Thin, Light And Complex Magnets

Manufactured through powder metallurgy technology, sintered AlNiCo magnets resemble other sintered magnets. They come in small, thin, and complex shapes with high dimensional accuracy and strict tolerances. Sintered AlNiCo magnets also possess superior mechanical strength and machinability. They utilize materials better and have lower composition segregation and magnetic property fluctuation compared to cast AlNiCo magnets. Though their overall magnetic properties are slightly lower than cast AlNiCo magnets, sintered AlNiCo magnets are still a reliable option for certain applications. Cast AlNiCo magnets are more commonly used due to their higher magnetic properties.

Cast Alnico Magnets-more Widely Used Alnico Magnets Cast Alnico Magnets-more Widely Used Alnico Magnets

The production of Cast AlNiCo magnets involves a traditional casting process wherein the aluminum nickel cobalt alloy with varying components is melted and poured into resin sand molds. Subsequently, it undergoes a heating and cooling process to solidify the material with a rough surface. Cast AlNiCo magnets can be divided into anisotropic and isotropic types depending upon the application of a magnetic field orientation during cooling. In cast AlNiCo magnets, anisotropy is characterized by a shape anisotropy resulting from slender Fe-Co particles arranged parallel to the magnetic field during amplitude modulation decomposition. Hence, after heat treatment, the AlNiCo material is crafted into specific geometry and tolerance.

Application of AlNiCo Permanent Magnets

AlNiCo permanent magnets find widespread application in industries such as automotive, aerospace, power generation, and telecommunications. They are used in relays, sensors, meters, loudspeakers, motors, magnetic chucks, and holding systems due to their high magnetization stability, good temperature stability, and excellent corrosion resistance. AlNiCo magnets are also utilized in medical equipment, musical instruments, and educational kits, making them a versatile and reliable option for various applications.

Details of AlNiCo Magnets

As a non rare earth metal permanent magnet material, the composition of Aluminum Nickel Cobalt(AlNiCo) alloy magnet is usually 8-13wt% aluminum, 13-28wt% nickel, 5-24wt% cobalt, and the rest is iron. In addition, the enhancement of acicular phase is promoted to improve the intrinsic coercivity, and alloy elements such as copper, titanium and niobium are added to the matrix phase. Aluminum Nickel Cobalt(AlNiCo) magnets once occupied a dominant position in the permanent magnet industry before the birth of rare earth magnets with their strongest magnetic properties. Alnico magnet is famous for its excellent heat resistance / temperature stability, hard and brittle materials, and it is also a magnet with low to medium strength.

AlNiCo magnets perform well in applications with operating temperatures above 400 degrees According to the manufacturing process, AlNiCo magnets can be divided into cast AlNiCo magnets and sintered AlNiCo magnets.

FAQs for Alnico Permanent Magnets

  • Q

What are the main features of alnico magnets?

    A

AlNiCo magnets have high magnetic strength and high energy, but low coercivity. They are less fragile than rare earth magnets, have strong corrosion resistance and excellent temperature stability, and can be used at very high temperatures. By casting or sintering, they can be made into complex shapes (such as horseshoe shape), which can not be achieved by other magnetic materials

  • Q

Are there processing restrictions for AlNiCo magnets?

    A

Alnico requires very careful processing & these materials are generally not recommended for structural or decorative purposes. Machining or drilling cannot be done by ordinary methods. AlNiCo magnets are hard and fragile, and are easy to produce debris and cracks. Cutting and grinding shall be carried out before magnetization.

  • Q

Does alnico magnet deed surface treatments?

    A

Because of their excellent corrosion resistance, AlNiCo magnets usually do not need protective surface treatment,

  • Q

What is the maximum working temperature of the alnico magnet?

    A

Alnico magnet is the permanent magnet with the strongest high temperature resistance, and its maximum working temperature can reach 550 ℃

  • Q

What should we pay attention to when using AlNiCo magnets?

    A

The repulsive magnetic field may partially demagnetize the AlNiCo magnets, and special attention should be paid to ensure that these magnets are not affected by the repulsive magnetic field. If the alnico alloy is partially demagnetized, it is easy to re-magnetize

  • Q

What are the difference between sintered Al-Ni-Co and cast Al-Ni-Co magnet?

    A

Cast AlNiCo magnets are available for different sizes and shapes; the sintered AlNiCo magnets are limited to small size, the dimensional tolerance of sintered AlNiCo is better than that of the cast AlNiCo, and the magnetic properties are slightly lower than that of the cast AlNiCo magnets, but the machinability is better
